Description

The Comet Mino is one of Mepps most popular lures. It will catch just about any fish that swims. Bassmaster magazine named the Comet Mino one of the 10 best bass lures of all time. All Comet Minos are carefully airbrushed to ensure realism. Their erratic swimming action makes them appear to be a wounded bait fish.

Comet Minos come in sizes #00 through #5. A #00 is an Ultra Lite spinner. In fact, you can get the #5 Comet Mino with either a 3" or 4" Mino.

Comet Minos are perfect for casting or trolling. Gold blades are polished brass. Silver blades are genuine silver plated. Painted blades feature a proprietary blend of epoxy and acrylic finishes. All Mepps Comet Minos run at mid-depth.

The image you see behind the lure is a picture of the actual sound waves created by that particular lure.

Comet Mino #3

Waveforms of the sounds produced by the Comet Mino #3

The #3 Mepps Comet Mino blade produces a sound similar to the #3 Aglia blade with a couple of exceptions. Because the Comet blade spins closer to the body of the spinner, the Comet blade produces a sound with a slightly lower pitch than the Aglia blade. The Comet blade also spins just a bit faster than the Aglia blade, so the steady series of "thumps" the blade produces during the retrieve are closer together. The sounds these blades produce are similar, but, by listening to one right after the other you will hear a definite difference.

Comet Mino #5

Waveforms of the sounds produced by the Comet Mino #5

The #5 Mepps Comet Mino blade produces a sound similar to the #5 Aglia blade. However, because the Comet blade spins closer to the body of the spinner, its sound is pitched lower than the Aglia blade. The Comet blade also spins just a little bit faster than the Aglia blade, so the steady series of "thumps" the blade produces during the retrieve are closer together. These blades may produce similar sounds, but, listen carefully and you will have no problem hearing a definite difference.

The Mepps Mino is the best lure I have used yet. If you want to catch fish, this is the lure to get. Yearling Bass eat this like candy. Thank you Mepps for making such a great lure.

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Bass, White

Best product I've ever used is the Comet Mino #3 Shad to catch large and small mouth bass!

Ethan Koski – Basswood Lake, BWCA, Minnesota

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Walleye

I've caught tons of fish on my Comet Mino, but the most excellent fish I caught was a 39in. northern pike. It was massive. It had a diameter of 15in. It took an hour to fillet it. And the same day I caught a huge 28in walleye. I'm for sure telling everyone I know about your guy's Comet Mino. I have never caught so many fish on one lure. I'm a 14 year old kid from Minnesota that doesn't have a job, but loves to go fishing and never, I mean never, had so much fun with one lure. I'm for sure going to save up some money to buy another one of these. I'll make sure everyone I know, knows about these.

Chuck Wechsler – South Carolina

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Pickerel

"In my experience, the best and most versatile lure for fishing dark-water rivers and creeks in the South is the Mepps Comet Minnow. This little lure is deadly on largemouth bass, crappie, bream, warmouth, and pickerel, or what we call jackfish in the South. Truly an awesome lure. - Chuck Wechsler, editor, Sporting Classics magazine

William Torraca – Lago Entrepenas(Lake Entrepenas) Spain, New York

Fish Caught: Pike, Northern

I was stationed near Madrid, Spain for 6 years with the U.S. Air Force. I used to go to 3 three bodies of water near each other. All three were on the way to Zaragoza, north of Madrid, nesr the city of Guadalajara. My chief and I were out on a rubber dingy going back and forth between the river and the lake. We were both using Comet Minos and in the course of 4 hours we each caught 12 Northern Pikes apiece. That is one of my best fishing memories. Sadly, the particular Mino's hook rotted out but the plastic body is still good. Are there replacement hooks for them. I'd like to rehook it and give it a place of honor on the retired shelf. Thanks for a great product. My first ever testimonial. I still have some Mepps lures and the mini tackle box they came in that I purchased in the mid 1980s. Some are pretty beat up but still combat ready! :)

Michael Colamarino – Cold Spring, New York

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Sunfish (shellcracker)

I bought the Mepps Rainbow trout Comet Mino on Saturday 4/23 and I went fishing 4/24. I went to a spot I never caught fish at. I was really just using it to shake the rust off and it was a real open spot so I wouldn't get tangled or caught on anything. So I get there and there are three other people fishing. I ask "Hey, you guys catch anything" They said "No we haven't" They were there an hour before me. So I set up shop and I cast out "bam" big sunfish, probably the biggest I ever caught. Then, I cast out two more times, bam! Caught a largemouth bass. These guys were looking at me upset and asked what I was using, I told them. I ended up catching 5 total on the day at a spot I never caught fish at before.

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth

I have been sick for six months. Coming from the doctor, all I had was my trout tackle in the car. I put on a Mepps Comet Mino on my ultra lite trout rod and caught a 2 1/2# Largemouth Bass. After being sick and missing half the season, just catching one bass made my day.

William Jackson – Guadalupe River, Kerrville, Cibilo Creek, Cibilo, Texas

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Blue - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Rainbow

I am 53 and have been fishing Mepps spinners since I was 4 years old from as far north as Fairbanks, Alaska, to as far south as Oakville, Texas. When it seems that nothing is biting, the Mepps Comet Minos sizes 00, 1, 2, or 3, always save the day as do the Aglia with squirrel tails. I saw my father catch Salmon and Grayling on Mepps while I have caught Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth bass, Spotted Bass, Guadalupe Bass, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Green Sunfish, Longear Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Redspotted Sunfish, Warmmouth, Rock Bass, White and Black Crappie, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, and once a silver shad. I have caught panfish barely larger than the lure to Bass over 4 pounds. All the Mepps products are winners. They are fantastic.
