The opening morning of bass season was overcast; the current was moderate to slow and the water was stained as usual. I walked up to a productive holding area with a gravel bar and fallen trees/logs for cover. With an upstream cast, I began to retrieve the lure--the flash could just be seen as it traveled towards me and then it disappeared into the mouth of the waiting bass. It seemed as if time stood still as the chunky bronze back hit the lure and then began an aerial display all the while pulling relentlessly against the drag of my line. For a short while I was concerned that the light tackle might not provide a good hook set but the fish was hooked beautifully in the corner of the mouth. I snapped this picture, pulled the lure, and released this strong fighter back to the camouflaged depths.
