My Story

I was out fishing for steelhead with spinners today. I hooked up with a good few steelhead but kept losing them all. I was then reeling my spinner in and this fish tried to bite. I saw the fish barely and thought it was a stream brown since the belly looked orange. I took another cast and this fish tried to hit again. Next cast bang! I set the hook and as soon as I saw it I knew it was a Red Oscar! lol I used to have them years ago when I had a fish tank. Someone must of dumped a fish tank in the river and I caught this fish by luck. The chance of catching an Oscar is one in a million in a Lake Michigan tributary with a bunch of steelhead in the river that could of perhaps ate him for breakfast. I decided to put him on a stringer go home come back with a bucket so I can keep him without killing him. I did 2 good things here. 1. I kept a fish that should not of been in the creeks out of the creeks. 2. I saved his life by keeping him. He would of got ate or would of died by the winter anyway since they are warm water fish. I have him at my house right now trying to find him a good home. If I can't find him a good home, I'm going to keep him as my Mepps fishing pet. lol I wonder is there a Mepps patch for an Oscar? Fun surprising day thanks to Mepps!
