Since it was such a terribly long and cold winter, my wife and I started fishing our pond a day after ice-out, which happened on April 24th this year. Nine days later, I landed my biggest smallmouth ever on a Mepps #3 Copper Aglia. My wife netted the fish, but actually broke her rib in the process. She was okay in a couple of weeks, so I didn't feel too bad for her, especially since she was part of catching the biggest smallie of our lives. Also, she now has a cool story to tell everyone for the rest of her life when she tells about the one and only time she broke a rib. The fish was one ounce shy of 4 pounds. Maybe next year she'll break another rib netting a true 4 pounder!
