Each year I go to Canada from Ohio. I take 1 friend with me to fish the Northern waters on my bass boat. 5-7 days in the north in a cabin 12 hour drive away from home. Learning the waters was tough. With some help with friends they help guide the way but end of the day its you the water and wilderness in Canada. We have a motto on my boat. No Guide, No problem. On the day of the big girl we hooked onto over 30 pike almost all on Mepps and all good size 30inch+ fish. The lake is very very large and the weather can make the lake dangerous. We could see a storm coming in the distance... We fished till it got closer, the waves in the large bay got rough so we went into a little tributary till the cloud went over. We got wet but so what the fish are wet too. Once it passed, we went back out and had a fantastic time.
After so many beaten up Mepps, a stinky pike smelling boat and sore casting arms we felt it was about time to head in. As any fisherman would say, "okay, one more cast" as I was reeling in that last cast I saw a swirl that reminded me of shark week as the great northern hammered my spinner ripping through the 5ft weeds. What a fight it gave me running around my boat that evening. You never forget that last cast fish experience. Especially on a trophy fish. To this day I still have that Mepps lure retired where I can remember my first 30+ fish day on the water. Since using Mepps, there has only been many more special days words can not write out and yes of course that trophy swam off to be caught another day and so have so many other more. Fish On!
