One of the most special catches I've ever experienced. I always follow my gut feeling when it comes to last casts. I hadn't had an opportunity at a King the whole trip. It was one of the last days of my vacation and I had set a 5 cast limit before having to leave this spot for good. On my 5th cast, I had a little hit from a Dolly Varden. By rule, I never leave on a missed bite for my last cast, so I decided to throw my legitimate last cast. I felt a hit unlike any of the previous, this one felt big and powerful. He didn't surface until a sudden mid fight tail flip near the top of the water. I realized I had something special on at this point. My heart started racing 1000 MPH as I had finally linked into this red beauty. We shared a few moments together in the rugged Alaskan wilderness and then I let him back on his way. After the release, I took a minute to reflect and the emotions of the catch set in. A truly special moment for me on my fishing adventures.
