While waiting for my son to come back up river so we could head for our vehicles, I stopped just above a deep pool at a bend in the river. Just killing time, I made a cast into the pool and the fish hit almost instantly. It was a total surprise and a very nice one at that. This happened to be the best day in many years for the number of larger fish landed. We practice catch and release.
