I caught this fish right when I was starting to lose my confidence and enthusiasm for the fishing day. I was fishing with my father and neither of us had gotten any hits or fish except for a largemouth about 4 hours prior. I threw out my killer and after about 10 turns of the reel the fish absolutely crushed it. It started running immediately and was taking drag steadily. I fought him for a good while and eventually got him close enough to the boat to see its size and get my heart pumping. At this point my dad was ready with the net and he was starting to come in nice and steady into the net, but he wasn't done yet! He took a hard left turn and started screaming drag and jumped clear out of the water while I held my breath and prayed he didn't shake off my Mepps. Luckily he dropped in still hooked and still taking drag. After a few more minutes of him turning this way and that he started to come back in close enough to get the net in and scoop him up. While we were removing the lure and getting him prepared for measurement another boater had apparently seen the chaos and came up to the boat and said, "I just wanted to see a big fish". There's nothing more fun than catching these toothy critters so thank you Mepps for landing me quite a few in the last couple years!
